The Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies at the University of Wroclaw invites applications for the Associate Professor to manage the Chair of Economics and Social Sciences.

 

The Willy Brandt Centre for German and European Studies at the University of Wroclaw/Breslau which is funded by the University of Wroclaw and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), has pledged to take account of a better understanding and improvement of German-Polish relations in an integrated Europe through excellent academic research and teaching. We are looking to fill the position from September 1st 2010 for four years.

 

Qualification and experience required:

 

- Academic degree of professorship or equivalent qualification

- Considerable experience in research and teaching in the field of contemporary Germany in social science or economics

- Practice-orientated research / development of innovative lectures and degree programs qualifying students for international organizations

- Cooperativeness / interdisciplinary and integrative work with other chairs of the Willy Brandt Centre and respective institutes and faculties of the university of Wroclaw

- Experience in mentoring PhD students

- Excellent German or Polish language proficiency / basic knowledge of the other language and willingness to improve language skills / good kowledge of English

- Commitment to achieve the goals set and foster the development of the Willy Brandt Centre / moving to Wroclaw is required

- Remuneration is determined in accordance with country-specific legislation and is with regard to the supra-regional relevance of our institute adequately supplemented by funds of the DAAD.

- Letter of motivation describing envisaged teaching and research projects

- Two scientists qualified to teach at professorial level in Germany / Poland who could issue a recommendation upon request (PhD supervisor and institute of origin are excluded)

- Summary of achievements in research, teaching and organization

- Certificate of appointment as professor (copy)

 

If possible, the documents should be submitted in German and Polish, at least in one of these languages.

 

The first preselection will be made on the basis of the application documents. In a second phase detailed talks with the Board of Trustees are held. The evaluation of the candidate will be forwarded to the president of the University of Wroclaw and to the president of the DAAD.
