Karolina May Chu

karolina may chu 401x520 scaled croppI am a PhD candidate in the Department of German at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I received my M.A. in American Studies and Germanistik from the University of Potsdam, Germany in 2006. My thesis was on cultural productions and identity formation of the Armenian diaspora in the United States. During my M.A. studies I worked part-time as program manager for Harvard University’s CES Berlin Dialogues lecture series. After completing my degree, I continued to manage academic events both for the Berlin Dialogues and for the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung. I moved to the United States in 2007 and worked as a freelance translator. My projects included translating Maria Höhn’s “GIs and Fräuleins: The German-American Encounter in 1950s West Germany” into German. I began my doctoral program in fall 2009. My particular interests are in 20th century literature, German-Polish literary relations, transnationalism, border studies and the study of World Literatures.
