History of German Cinema

On 26th October 2009 Professor Andrzej Gwóźdź started his lectures about the history of German cinema in the WBZ.

 

Professor Gwóźdź, head of movie and media sciences at the Silesian University in Katowice, holds his lecture every last Monday of the month in the academic year 2009/2010.

Andrzej Gwóźdź is professor at the Silesian University in Katowice and head of movie and media sciences. Furthermore he worked as a research assistant at the University Łódź, as visiting professor at the University of Konstanz and Shanghai as well as in the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Germany. His field of specialization is audio-visual anthropology, media culture and history of media.

 

Author of several anthologies about media theory (inter alia „Pejzaże audiowizualne. Telewizja – wideo – komputer“, Krakow 1997; „Widzieć, myśleć, być. Technologie mediów“, Krakow 2001, „Media – eros – przemoc. Sport w czasach popkultury“, Krakow 2003); movie history (anthology in two volumes about the German movie and the first anthology that was published in a foreign country about the Polish movie: „Filmtheorie in Polen. Eine Anthologie“, Frankfurt/M. – Bern – New York – Paris 1992); history of cinema in Upper Silesia; „Europejskie manifesty kina. Od Matuszewskiego do Dogmy. Antologia“ (Warsaw 2002) and books about producing films.

 

Published in the last years inter alia: „Kino niemieckie w dialogu pokoleń i kultur. Studia i szkice“ (Krakow 2003), „Filmorób, czyli kino nieustające Rainera Wernera Fassbindera“ (Krakow 2005), „Media – ciało – pamięć. O współczesnych tożsamościach kulturowych“ (with A. Nieracka-Ćwikiel, Warsaw 2006), „Kino Kieślowskiego, kino po Kieślowskim“ (Warsaw 2006).

 

Author of the monographs: „Pochwała widzialności. Ze studiów nad niemiecką myślą filmową do roku 1933“ (Katowice 1990), „Kultura – komunikacja – film. O tekście filmowym“ (Krakow 1992), „Obrazy i rzeczy. Film między mediami“ (Krakow 1997, 2th ed. 2003), „Technologie widzenia, czyli media w poszukiwaniu autora: Wim Wenders“ (Krakow 2005, award of the Polish ministry for education and sport), „Czeska myśl filmowa: Obrazy, obrazki, obrazeczki“ (No 1, Gdańsk 2005), „Czeska myśl filmowa: Reguły gry“ (No. 2, Gdańsk 2007).

 

He won the cultural award of the city of Katowice in 2007 and is editor-in-chief of the quarterly periodical „Kultura Współczesna“.
